Is your Inclusion Performative? Finding our Voices as Linguistic Advocates and Allies

For some languages, like Romances, the topic of non-binary language is also relevant when referring to groups of people of various genders or to undefined people (such as a web portal addressing a “client”). For language service providers outside the queer community, these inclusion practices in language may be confusing or counterintuitive.

A workshop delivered in English but with examples and tasks primarily in Spanish. The presenter can give guidance in a few languages beyond their working ones with varying degrees of familiarity. LSPs of other languages are welcome to attend and will benefit from the guidance and exercises even if the facilitator doesn’t have all the answers.
