Protecting and Professionalizing the Role of the Interpreter in Kansas: Alce Su Voz Fighting for Minority Rights through Interpretation

An interactive activity focused on assessing the current state of translation and interpretation in Kansas. Participants will increase their knowledge about the positive impact of community-based projects to standardize quality services of translation and interpretation. The content of this activity is applicable across educational, legal, and medical translation and interpreting.

Objectives:

  • Assess the health access disparities due to a lack of language resources in Kansas.
  • Recognize the power of community-based projects and the relevance of translating and interpreting for preserving the rights of minority groups.
  • Engage in group-conversations to simulate the steps to follow for the creation of an organization similar to Alce Su Voz.
