“I’m a translator not a scientist – now what?”

Scientific and technical translations are specialized types of translations with some of the highest levels of difficulty and complexity. Some of the scientific and technical fields that need translation services include biology, medicine, pharmacy, chemistry, engineering, and physics. Deep knowledge of the topic is critical to understand the content and to render accurate and consistent translations as small errors may result in serious consequences.

This workshop provides and discusses approaches for beginners to translate scientific content, an overview of the impact of scientific translations, and ethical “food for thought” for when translating technical and scientific content.

We aim to:

  • recognize the state of the scientific and technical translation industry;
  • equip translators with tools and strategies for accuracy and keeping abreast of advances in the corresponding field;
  • identify some ethical implications of translating scientific/technical content.
