This presentation is intended to explore alternatives to the rather literal Spanish translations used in workers’ compensation (WC) materials published by United States government agencies. The presenter will start by describing WC systems in the United States and in some Latin American countries. Using Wordsmith Tools 5.0, a corpus of parallel texts, including legislation, will then be analyzed to identify some of the workers’ compensation terminology used in Spanish-speaking countries, and to compare it with terms widely used in the United States.
