Messy Situations in Professional Translation and Interpreting
A new manager for a regular agency client asks you to lower your rate. A client that doesn’t use TM sends you a document with 90%+ matches with a job you did for them. An agency requests a quote for the exact same document you’re already translating for a public district.
At this workshop, participants will discuss “messy” situations in a translator’s or interpreter’s professional life. There are no right or wrong answers to the problems: the goal is to discuss courses of action for not-so-simple scenarios with not-so-straightforward solutions that can leave us scratching our heads before we can craft a proper response—just like in real life.
Ethical aspects that have a bearing on the scenarios and solutions will be discussed, as we oftentimes fail to notice them.
Attendees will be contacted after they register to submit ideas for discussion (“messy” scenarios).
