Best Practices and Ethics for Translating and Interpreting Professionals

Community interpretation, whether inside or outside educational institutions, public health, or courts, has gained importance in recent years in the United States and Latin America, especially in the combination of English, Spanish and indigenous language, and in many cases through the “relay” mode or a triangulation between the three languages. This lecture will analyze the use of this modality as a good practice and will report on the ethical standards used in the above-mentioned countries in light of the international event “IV Forum Interpreters and translators of indigenous languages 2019: writing and speaking our language,” held at Universidad Intercultural de Chiapas, San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, from November 29-30.
